I wanted to express my thoughts about Wonder Women VI, while I’m still warm with the energy that rose from the stage of talented artists ranging from singer songwriters, to spoken word, to visual artists, to stand up comedians. It felt like the intensity grew as the evening progressed and emotional waves washed over us with every new performance, audience and artists knit together, lifted each other up and roared with empowerment. This day, International Women’s Day we celebrated our differences and common ground, this day we celebrated our strengths and our weaknesses, this day we embraced each other as mothers, daughters, friends, lovers, and independent artists. It was an incredible culmination of strength, conviction and love, and I was honoured to participate and bear witness.
A mountain of gratitude must be erected for the awe-inspiring commitment and enthusiasm of Arlene Paculan and Kat Leonard towards a week of successful concerts and free workshops, and the grand finale that was International Women’s Day and the Wonder Women Concert to spread empowerment through art!
Check out the full gamut of awesome performers that made this event a huge success!

I realize there is a decision for me to make within the creative process and my artistry as a songwriter.
To create from my own voice or to communicate for others?
As a graphic designer it is my commitment to excel at the later, to solve design and communication problems for clients, and support them in the expression of their brand. In this sense there is a responsibility to create from another perspective, where success is measured by insights, trends and brand engagement relevant to a strategic goal.
As both artist and songwriter, I see a new opportunity to celebrate my own voice, and what I personally have to contribute to the world. A voice I could not access as an artist through other mediums. Through music there are stories to explore that could contribute so much more than the packaged, processed products for mass consumption that keep us from feeling anything real, or connecting us to each other. This is where my passion lies, in breaking past the surface and making that emotional connection, one song at a time.
For me this is a choice to be expansive, and not limited in my creative pursuits. In this choice I empower a voice that has in the past placed the judgements of others before her own. Through music I will emancipate my spirit and create a clearing to start anew.
I choose to expand from within! Where do you stand? I’d love to hear what you are passionate about and how you are bringing your gifts into this world. Please leave a comment on the blog or tweet me @misstaniajoy 🙂
Much love,
Tania

The 10 Most Valuable gifts you can give this Holiday Season
1. Forgive Yourself
2. Forgive someone you have wronged, or you perceive have wronged you.
3. Instead of buying a gift for your best friend. Write a letter, telling him/her what the friendship means to you.
4. The neighbor or colleague you don’t really like, and have been avoiding, take this opportunity to find something to compliment them on. Make it genuine. Everyone has something worth noting.
5. Clean out your closet/jewellery box and recycle those items you have not used for a long time. Someone, somewhere may need your cast-offs
6. Does your gift-giving list include someone who has everything? Why burden them with more “stuff!” Make a contribution to a charity in their name and encourage them to begin a revolution of the heart, by giving their time.
7. Suspend your judgments of a homeless person. You don’t know their situation. Look them in the eye and send them thoughts of love.
8. Write a Love Letter to yourself
9. If you’re in a romantic relationship – write a love letter to your partner.
10. Repeat steps 1 and 2.

“Love and appreciation are identical vibrations. Appreciation is the vibration of alignment with who-you-are. Appreciation is the absence of everything that feels bad and the presence of everything that feels good. When you focus upon what you want – ;when you tell the story of how you want your life to be – you will come closer and closer to the vicinity of appreciation, and when you reach it, it will pull you toward all things that you consider to be good in a very powerful way.”

At the beginning of October I embarked on a Songwriting Challenge for myself to write one new song a week for one year. Yes, one whole year!

A few weeks later I attended a daylong seminar put on by the Songwriters Association of Canada (SAC) called Songposium, which was focused on many aspects of the songwriting process including the anatomy of a song (by Rob Wells), publishing & licensing (by Jeff Dalziel), and licensing for film & television (by Amy Fritz). It was a full day, with the perfect of amount of insight that inspired me to include more co-writes as a contribution to my songwriting process and the yearlong challenge I have before me.
Check out my first post about my co-write with Dayna Shereck and stay tuned on the blog for more on how my Songwriting Challenge is going!

The Artist’s Way – Morning pages (excerpt) – Week 7
I woke up today thinking about how we are so many things, all at once, to so many people. No wonder its hard to think about who we are to ourselves. We choose to spend all of our time pleasing other people. We think about being a good daughter, a good friend, a good lover, a good employee, a good listener, a good example, a good mentor, good company, a good sister, a good leader, a good team player. When do we choose to focus on being good ourselves?
The positive side of being there for others and giving back, means our lives are full. But are we fulfilled?
“We all have the capacity to love and be loved in so many ways.”
It’s important to embrace our capacity for love, but if we don’t love ourselves first, and take care of our own dreams, no one will do it for us.
